Bays Mountain Park, located in beautiful Kingsport, Tennessee, is a 3500 acre nature preserve and the largest city owned park in the state of Tennessee. The Park features a picturesque 44 acre lake, a Nature Center with a state-of-the-art Planetarium Theater, and Animal Habitats featuring wolves, bobcats, raptors and reptiles.
Bays Mountain Park offers a wide variety of activities which can be enjoyed by the whole family. The highlights of the park are the Animal Habitats and the Planetarium Theater. With over 35 miles of hiking trails covering 3550 acres, it’s easy to get out and enjoy the peacefulness of the park.
Canoe & Kayak Tours and Barge Rides
Easily one of the most relaxing, fun ways to enjoy the lake at Bays Mountain Park. Search for hidden coves, watch for beaver and great blue herons, or listen to the wolves howl with the coming of nightfall while you enjoy an evening of exploration and relaxation paddling on beautiful Bays Mountain Lake.
Enjoy the beauty of the Bays Mountain reservoir aboard a pontoon boat while the secrets of local aquatic animals are revealed. Observe water lilies, deer, raccoons, ducks, geese, turtles, great blue herons, and sometimes black bear. Your naturalist will discuss park history as well as the sights and sounds encountered on your trip creating a unique experience. The Barge Ride lasts appoximately 45-minutes.
Bays Mountain Park’s newest attraction is an interactive ropes course consisting of both high and low challenge elements and a thrilling 300 foot zipline. The Adventure Course elements provide participants with an intense partnering experience which dramatically highlights the objectives of team work, cooperation, trust, communication, adventure, and perhaps most importantly, compassion.
The Hawk’s Nest is our high ropes course which features four elements on two levels. The Low Course features 10 challenging elements. Both the Hawk’s Nest and Low Courses may be scheduled for group activities. The Flying Squirrel is a 300 foot zipline guaranteed to provide participants with a thrilling and memorable experience.
Bays Mountain Park is nestled in the northeastern end of the Bays Mountain formation only a few miles from downtown Kingsport. Framed on all sides by mountain ridges, much of the park lies in a natural basin and is a protected haven for wildlife.
Directions From Johnson City, TN
Take I-26N (old I-181) and exit at Meadowview Parkway, Exit 3(old Exit 52). Turn left at the light at the bottom of the exit ramp. This road turns into Reservoir Rd. Continue on Reservoir Rd. for approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Bays Mountain Park Rd. Stay to the left at the fork in road for the Park entrance.
